Cher and Future are in many ways an unlikely pairing — Cher has long been dubbed the “Goddess of Pop” while Future has become one of hip-hop’s most notable figures — but on Wednesday (Sept. 13) their two worlds collided in the newest installment of GAP’s Meet Me in the Gap campaign, giving fans a taste of what a potential duet from the duo would sound like.
The 30-second, the Director X-produced video finds the tandem seated on white stairs in a crisp white room, decked out in GAP denim as Cher takes the lead in the cover of Sly & the Family Stone’s 1969 classic “Everyday People.” The 1969 song gets a timely rework and transforms into a trap-style hip-hop tune, an area where Future thrives. The pop star’s voice is bathed in with auto-tune as she sings “Sometimes I’m right and I can be wrong/ My own beliefs are in my song” with Future providing a few ad-libs.
